Woudstra Beach House

A few photos of a private residence I designed a little over 20 years ago that was recently sold by the original owners. Located in coastal NC on the Neuse River, the home was originally designed and sited on the property to take advantage of an opening in trees on the coastal bluff (18 years later The trees came down in a hurricane). The master bedroom suite was aligned directly with the view with the remainder of the home at an angle to take advantage of the same view with the "knuckle" as the entry foyer that lead into the great room at the center of the home. The main house was +/- 4,000 SF, 3 bedroom home featuring a great room with 18' tall reinforced glass wall leading up to a 30' tall feature wall, with reflecting pool outside. The feature wall also houses an open staircase and railing design as well. The home features a combination of traditional elements such as the timber framed Porte Cochere at the entry as well as more contemporary elements blended together. Several walls and windows were designed around specific pieces of furniture for the original owners as well. There is also a separate building off a courtyard with a 4 car garage and office space above.
